Makena is a beautiful area of south Maui that is relatively untouched. Besides the few deluxe resorts in the area, there are many pristine Maui beaches tucked away for your special day. You’ll find easy access next door in Wailea and Kihei for all your wedding needs.
Shooting Makena weddings is always a treat. The area surrounding the beaches has a raw Hawaiian ambiance that brightens any photograph.
Makena Beaches
Here are some of the great beaches to get married on in Makena, Maui.
Makena, Big Beach
Famous for stretching as far as your eye can see, this beach is beautiful, dangerous with the shorebreak, and you’re not allowed to get married on it.
Ahihi Marine Reserve (Ahihi Cove/Bay)
Just on the north side of the Sugarman’s Estate, this has some of the best snorkeling on this side of Maui. The reserve has a few very small beaches.
La Perouse Bay
There really aren’t many beaches with sand, but you can find large expanses of rock and coral. It’s the furthest south you can drive, but it’s rugged beauty is pretty impressive.
Po’olenalena Beach
Easy access with parking and not too far from Wailea hotels and resorts.
Paipu Beach
Sort of a secret beach, you have to walk for awhile along a rocky path to get to it. You’ll often find nudist enjoying the far end in the buff.
Maluaka Beach
One of our favorite beaches on Earth. It’s perfect.
Makena Cove
Most people don’t even know that this spot exists, but you can be sure that once they know, they never forget it. This cove is extremely picturesque with black lava rock, lush green vegetation, and turquoise water. Parking is a bit of a difficulty so smaller weddings are recommended here unless you can shuttle.
