Since 2013, when the Hawaii Marriage Equality Act was passed, a growing number of LGBT weddings have come to Hawaii. Having had enjoyed thousands of weddings here on Maui ourselves, we’ve been asked a few times recently what the different is between traditional straight weddings and same-sex weddings in terms of the details and overall vibe of the ceremonies and receptions. We’ve pondered it and gone back through past wedding photos to help jar our memories.
Turns out there’s no major differences, other than sexual orientation among the guests and wedding couple. We get asked, “are gay/lesbian weddings more stylish?” Most of the straight brides we’ve seen put together weddings here on Maui have plenty of style, so no. There’s no big differences. Perhaps the only small difference was an extra level of enthusiasm around 2013 when it became legal. All brides and grooms, whether straight or LGBT, have Maui weddings filled with loving friends and family in beautiful locations in paradise.
That being said, we thought we’d share some of our favorite photos from Joe D’Alessandro Photography. Enjoy!
