Wailea is hugged by 1,500 acres of beach, built on rolling hills, and filled with green space. It’s known for its five main beaches, golf courses, diving, and ocean activities. Wailea is also recognized for its varied cuisine, special events, and the Shops at Wailea.
Grand Wailea Luau
The Grand Luau in Wailea is considered one the finest on the island, with its being specifically “Maui-Style” making it truly unique. There are pre-show activities for you to take part in, including traditional stories, hula dances, a fire dancer, and great music. Once you’ve booked your reservation, everything is taken care of for you, so just show up and enjoy the magic. Pre-show activities include a Lei greeting, full Imu ceremony, Hawaiian crafts, and music. You can also take photos with the performers. The buffet opens up after initial drinks, with choices such as Poi, Salmon, Poke, Mahi Mahi, and salads. Main entrees include steak, kalua pork, teri chicken, and vegetarian options. The meal includes dessert and beverages.
Walk the Boardwalk
Wailea’s boardwalk allows for miles of walking where you can enjoy views of the nearby islands that make up Maui County, sea turtles and humpbacks during the season, and five white-sand beaches. The boardwalk runs along eight top resorts, so you may be staying right on the boardwalk depending on where your holiday is booked. Local Maui Tip: sunrise walks are amazing! Visitors and residents tend to sleep in and miss out on this time of day. The path is maintained by all eight resorts to ensure your walk is perfect through the flora that lines the beach.
Monkeypod
Monkeypod is a chain throughout Hawaii offering fantastic cuisine. In Wailea, Monkeypod Kitchen offers lunch, dinner, and adult beverages. Their Wailea location opened in 2011 and offers 36 craft beers, a wood oven for pizza, and live music. Monkeypod can be found on the south side of Maui where Kihei and Wailea meet. Whether you need cocktails, cream pie, or specialty pizzas, Monkeypod is the spot! Fish is brought in each day from local fishermen, and the kitchen also serves handmade Saimin noodles from Paia, fresh produce from local farmers, and steak from Maui Cattle Company. You may want to make a reservation if you are going to dine at the restaurant during peak hours. Read Monkeypod reviews.
Drinks at 5 Palms for Sunset
Sunsets in Hawaii are the things poems are written about. Sitting at the 5 Palms Bar, which is out on the lanai with views of Keawakapu Beach, is an excellent way to see the sunset. The 5 Palms Restaurant and Bar feature Hawaii regional and Pacific Rim cuisine. The menu includes fresh fish from the local fishermen, fruits and vegetables grown by nearby farmers, and a view that makes it all romantic. The 5 Palms offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and happy hour. Happy Hour provides discount drinks daily. Hours will change seasonally, so make sure to check when the current happy hour is. Eating inside the restaurant during Happy Hour subjects you to their normal high prices. Best to come early and grab a table in the Happy Hour zone. Tip: Try the sushi!
Ferraro’s
You can eat your way around Wailea and never want for any cuisine again. Ferraro’s Bar and Restaurant provides an ocean view in a setting that may remind you of Italy. It should be because it’s an Italian restaurant with open-air seating and an inviting ambiance. The restaurant provides casual lunches and world-class dining service. Ferraro’s is located at the Wailea Four Seasons and has a seating capacity of 130. Reservations for dinner are recommended. On certain nights, music is provided. A few of the menu choices include beef Meatballs Al Forno, Haiku Tomato Gazpacho, Gamberetti Piccata, and Pappardelle Lamb Ragu.
Keawakapu Beach
Keawakapu Beach is on the border of Wailea and South Kihei. It stretches 0.7 miles long and is a natural sandy beach. It’s an excellent place for swimming, boogie boarding, snorkeling, and laying out in the sun. The beach is an easy reach from any of the eight world-class resorts in Wailea.
